The Arts & Embracing Risk: David Williams in Conversation with Mark Goggin & Georgie Meagher
This is a past event.
“The biggest risk is not taking any risk… In a world that’s changing really quickly, the only strategy that is guaranteed to fail is not taking risks.”
Mark Zuckerberg
RISK has become a buzz word in arts management. Artists and organisations claim to be doing it boldly, fearlessly in a myriad of ways. But what does embracing risk mean? At what point does taking a risk tip into being reckless, unprepared or lacking rigour? And similarly, at what point does mitigating risks erase the spark of ingenuity and originality that is the foundation of great art? It’s a favourite topic of conversation in foyers, let’s drag it on stage to fire up SAMAG’s final event for 2015.
SAMAG members are invited to join us for a very special evening with Georgie Meagher and Mark Goggin in conversation director and producer, David Williams, all of whom have forged careers from taking risks. From embracing the unknown in the art-making process to putting together artistic programs that challenge, confront or confound audiences, risk means different things to different people. Our leaders will debate whether risk is a question of artistic quality, process, or just the ability to attract an audience.
Join us for a very special discussion followed by drinks with friends and colleagues at Baker & McKenzie’s magnificent Sydney offices.
